The Excel V works by delivering controlled pulses of light energy causing the blood in the targeted vessels to clot together, eventually resulting in its destruction and disappearance. This is safe and does not cause an interruption of blood flow to the area as blood is redirected to deeper vessels.
Patients usually experience a mild stinging sensation when an area is being treated. Generally, no pain medications are required and the sensation only lasts a few seconds.
Most small vessels will resolve after 3-5 treatments, although some patients may experience success after only 1 or 2 treatments. The number of sessions that will be required depends on the number, color, and size of the vessels being targeted. Every patient is different, and Dr. Campbell will examine you in consultation to help determine how many treatments will likely be needed and what kind of results might be expected. Treatments are generally performed every 4 weeks.
Many patients report no side effects, but those most commonly reported are mild redness and minimal swelling of the skin of the treated area. These effects typically last about 48-72 hours.
Most patients find that the majority of the treated veins show significant improvement within 8-12 weeks of treatment. However, your final results may not be apparent for several months. Over time, it is possible for new veins to appear. To remove them these new veins will need treatment as well.
Cutera’s Excel V laser platform includes a patented procedure known as Laser Genesis. This microsecond 1064 nm treatment is an excellent treatment option for diffuse redness, rosacea, and scars (including hypertrophic and keloid scars), as well as being an excellent skin rejuvenation treatment. Think of it as a “laser facial.” It works quickly to reduce redness while minimizing scars and wrinkles by stimulating collagen production. Ask about the Laser Genesis procedure if you struggle with overall redness or have an upcoming event. We know you would love to have that “glow!”
