Acquiring a beautiful, youthful look goes beyond the surface. True improvement requires addressing deeper issues–specifically a loss of facial volume and elasticity due to diminishing collagen, hyaluronic acid, and elastin. The dermatologists at Cypress Dermatology, uses injectable treatments, such as Juvéderm to counter this loss, employing skill and artistry to temporarily fill in wrinkles and plump up facial features for a natural-looking, refreshed appearance.
The Cypress Dermatology team wants to ensure each of our patients are accomplishing their aesthetic goals and, in the process, stay comfortable during and after their procedure. We offer a variety of FDA-approved dermal fillers– Juvéderm®, Juvéderm VOLUMA®, Restylane® Lyft, Restylane Refyne and Defyne ® Radiesse®, and RHA® –in order to best serve each of our patients’ individual needs, and our dermatologists personally perform all injections. Why trust your esthetic needs to anyone else?
As you age, natural environmental factors–like sunlight–can reduce the amount of hyaluronic acid in your skin. This lack of HA causes your skin to lose structure and volume, creating those unwanted facial wrinkles and folds.
We offer several varieties of hyaluronic acid (HA) gel fillers: Juvéderm®, Restylane® Lyft, Restylane® Refyne® and Defyne®, and RHA® . Patients appreciate the fact that these popular fillers are composed of a substance that occurs naturally in the human body and do not require allergy testing. These fillers also have a proven record of efficiency, each achieving results that may last six to 12 months, depending upon the area treated.
Juvéderm VOLUMA® is an innovative, injectable volumizer that delivers a smoother, more youthful appearance to your cheeks, cheekbones, and chin in as little as 15 to 30 minutes. This hyaluronic acid (HA) filler developed by the Juvéderm® brand has the ability to last up to two years, compared to the six- to 12-month window of current HA fillers like Restylane®, Prevelle®, and basic Juvéderm®. VOLUMA® was also created to be smoother than other HA facial fillers, making it easier to inject during treatment.
Juvéderm VOLUMA® was approved, and widely used, in Canada and Europe for several years before its approval in the United States. The Cypress Dermatology team was thrilled to be one of the first (and few) in the country to offer the treatment to our patients.
In addition to adding volume, Radiesse® Volumizing Filler stimulates collagen production. This protein will continue to grow in the skin for months, providing a long-term benefit. This is particularly beneficial for aging hands. A single treatment can yield results that last longer than a year. Radiesse can also be used in areas of sagging skin to improve the appearance of and tighten the skin and to treat cellulite.
Sculptra® Aesthetic
This collagen-producing volumizer gives patients a more gradual, natural, wrinkle-free look over time. Made with poly-L-lactic acid, Sculptra® targets the deep dermis, providing a foundation for a fuller, more youthful look.
With an average of three injection sessions over a few months’ time, results can last more than two years.
Tips for Juvéderm® and Other Dermal Filler Treatments
Arrive to the office with a fresh, clean face. No makeup, please.
A topical anesthetic will be applied to the areas to be injected. There is also anesthetic in each syringe of filler. You may experience some redness, swelling, and bruising after your treatment; because of this, arrange major social events at least two weeks after your treatment date. Patients normally report bruising lasting up to two weeks after their injections. Many patients schedule a complimentary KTP laser treatment for after the procedure, which will help the bruising to resolve more quickly. Avoid self-tanners in the days before your Juvéderm® or other dermal filler treatments in case lasers are needed.
One week before your Juvéderm® or other dermal filler session, stop taking multi-vitamins, Vitamin E, fish oil, Ibuprofen, and red wine. Before stopping any medication, be sure to check with your doctor.
Arnica Montana is a homeopathic supplement that prominent cosmetic surgeons have used for years to help their patients’ bruises diminish faster. We recommend patients start taking the product two days before their Juvéderm® or other dermal filler procedure and continue taking it for five days afterward or longer if needed.
Icing the treatment area after your Juvéderm® or other filler procedure causes the blood vessels to constrict and can help minimize bruising. Icing for 48 hours following a procedure will also help decrease the swelling.
Eating fresh pineapple can help minimize bruising as well. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: Fresh pineapple juice contains many nutrients, including the enzyme bromelain. Bromelain is a naturally occurring anti-inflammatory that can decrease swelling, point tenderness, and pain. Pineapple juice may help reduce the recovery time from bruising. Just remember: It must be fresh–and you must eat the pineapple, not just drink the juice.
Look for a concealer kit with several colors that will take you through the stages of a bruise. We carry post-procedure corrective kits designed specifically to conceal treatment bruising. When used correctly, they are extremely effective and no one will ever know you had anything done.
Getting older typically means getting wrinkles. The healthy, naturally moisturized, resilient skin of our youth gradually dries out and grows less flexible, leading to the development of lines and creases. Muscles also contract into the same expressions over and over, and surrounding tissues aren’t able to keep pace. But even if wrinkles form, they do not have to stay. With the careful application of Botox®, Dysport®, or Xeomin® from Cypress Dermatology, our patients can age gracefully without broadcasting their age from their facial skin.
The FDA-approved injectable BOTOX® Cosmetic has many applications, and is primarily used to temporarily stop muscle activity that reveals telltale lines on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and at the outer corners of the eyes. While results with any cosmetic treatment can vary from patient to patient, Our board-certified dermatologists personally handle each injection at the practice, allowing patients to be confident that they will receive the highest standard of care from dermatologists with practiced hands and precise eyes for detail.
And BOTOX® is not just for women: The injectable has also been clinically tested on men to yield very effective results. In fact, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons has noted that it is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments men request across the United States each year.
To understand the power of BOTOX®, you need to know that not all wrinkles are the same. Some of them, known as “static” wrinkles, appear on their own as skin loosens and loses moisture. Others, known as “dynamic” wrinkles, form as muscles pull tissues into the same set of expressions over and over again, day after day, year after year.
But skin tissues lose their flexibility over time, which hampers their ability to return to a smooth, rested state after muscle contractions. These repetitive motions in decreasingly elastic skin gradually create lines that become apparent with every lift of the eyebrow or wrinkle of the nose.
The active ingredient in BOTOX® is botulinum toxin type A, which is a purified form of a toxin from specific bacteria, and is very good at stopping chemical signals from getting from Point A to Point B in your body. When produced by a reputable manufacturer and injected by a trained and experienced dermatologist—as with BOTOX® at Cypress Dermatology—the ingredient can temporarily stop specific muscles in key areas from moving. With precise targeting, BOTOX® injections will not stop other facial muscles from moving, and will not hinder the natural expressiveness of the face.
As noted above, BOTOX® is ideal for horizontal lines that span across the forehead, vertical frown lines between the eyebrows (popularly known as 11 lines or devil horns), and the fine web of wrinkles that form at the outer corners of each eye, known as crow’s feet. Beyond these FDA-approved applications, the injectable cosmetic has long been safely used to treat a variety of other cosmetic issues, including:
While they all have the same active ingredient, each member of the Restylane® family is formulated slightly differently to work on specific areas or achieve specific goals. Restylane® Silk at our New Jersey area practice can: A) Restore the youthful contour and definition of lips; B) Smooth fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth (vertical lip lines), and C) Restore volume lost from age-related thinning or boost naturally thin lips.
