Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure that treats varicose and spider veins. The procedure involves injecting a solution directly into a small superficial vein, causing the treated vein to seal shut and disappear from view over time. The treated blood vessel (vein) is then naturally resorbed by the body. This procedure will be performed by your board-certified dermatologist and treatments should be done about once a month. Generally, 3-6 treatments are needed for best results, and some patients may need more treatments.
Note: Not all veins are good candidates for sclerotherapy, the physician will need to examine you to confirm you are a good candidate.
